Rien wasn’t entirely looking forward to this conversation, but he’d promised to tell them everything he knew about Hyun-ki, and they did need to know, if only so they didn’t accidentally frighten her with things. It was, he knew, the only reason Shinji had asked at all.

He sat cross-legged on their bed as he waited for the others to join him, hugging his pillow and rather wishing he had something like Kiri to hold. He almost wanted to ask if he could borrow him, but Shinji would probably want to be holding onto Kiri himself for this conversation.

Sighing, Rien smiled crookedly at both of them as they climbed into bed, Kippei reaching over to ruffle his curls and give him a reassuring smile.

Shinji fell asleep at some point in the little mermaid, cuddling Hyun-ki as if she were Kiri and getting the down time he so badly needed. He woke refreshed in the middle of the afternoon, feeling far more grounded and at peace with the world, though he rushed out of the now empty cubby house and sprinted into the kitchen, ignoring Rien and Hyun-ki at the table while he looked at the clock on the oven and excitedly hopped from one foot to the other. Kippei should be finished with class by now and on his way home. Shinji grabbed a glass of juice from the fridge and happily went to stare at the puzzle Rien and Hyun-ki were doing on the table.

Coming on the back of a bad day, Rien’s phone call at a time Shinji knew was far too early in the morning was the last straw. He couldn’t go back to sleep and instead sat in the spa for two hours until it was late enough that he could call in sick, and then he crawled back into bed before Hyun-ki could wake up and see that he was quickly falling apart.

Shinji struggled to get up the next day, moaning and bitching his way out of bed to the shower and then arguing with himself whether it was a good idea to go to school, but he couldn’t back down from it. He had to go to work for several hours in the morning, which only made him tired before he got there, and then he had a lecture that bored him half to tears. Unfortunately it made him frustrated, and he was already almost tearing his hair out by the time lunch came, and he knew he had to go to archery that afternoon.

Kippei had assumed that Shinji had been able to practice when he never came back to sit with him in class, but he still worried just a little bit for the rest of the day, until he could meet Shinji outside after school and see for himself that Shinji was really okay.

He smiled in relief when he saw Shinji waiting right where he was supposed to be, and went over to wrap him up in a hug and get a kiss. Shinji kisses made everything all right again.

Ren was a self confessed archery junkie. He’d been shooting since his first plastic bow at age three, and been captain of whatever team he was on since junior high. He lived and breathed archery, and spent all of his spare time either at a range, or with Kaneda….or usually both. Like now, heading into their lunch break, sitting with Kaneda and hand fledging their arrows. Kaneda had class after lunch, but for now it was just comfortable, spending time together.

Kippei was a little on edge as he sat in class the next day, hoping that Shinji would do as he’d said he would and come to sit with him in his class when his was over. It was a little ridiculous how badly he wanted it, just to see Shinji and have him there beside him, he knew instinctively that he would be able to focus better and get much more out of the class if he had Shinji there, knowing certainly that he was all right, that all was right with his world.

Being separated from Shinji always made him a bit anxious these days, unable to concentrate as his mind kept wandering back to where he was or what he was doing and if he was okay…thoughts that made him a little more tense by the hour as he sat waiting for Shinji to be done with his first class, praying that he’d come in to sit with him until he had another class.

Rien was entirely grateful when he looked at the clock to see that finally, it was almost time for Kippei and Shinji to be home again. He loved having Yuni all to himself for awhile, but she missed Shinji pathetically, and it wasn’t as easy to keep her distracted without Kippei there to help.

He’d kept her in the kitchen, the last few hours, helping him make a special dinner and set a fancy table, and then taking her back to her room to dress her up, explaining that she’d want to look pretty for Shinji, and he didn’t really get an argument; but then, he hadn’t expected to.

Shinji found a seat toward the back of his next class again and slid down into his seat with a disgruntled sigh. Maybe he should have just signed up for whatever Kippei was studying?

Kaneda was bored, because the first day of school was boring, nothing but introductions and course schedules, professors going over outlines and shit. They weren’t even doing anything yet and he was already bored stiff. Continue reading ‘one’

His hands were shaking horribly as he tried to do up the buttons on his shirt for the thirteenth time, at which point Shinji pulled it off and put on a long sleeved tshirt instead, sighing in relief to just have something on. Jeans, tshirt and his favourite cardigan soon followed and he hurried out to finish packing his lunch, stuffing the bento box into the bottom of his bags and checking for the third time if all his books were inside. He bit his lip nervously and looked at Hyun-ki in her high-chair with a pleading look.

“Do I have everything I need Yuni?”
